Dear Lovely Guests Past, present and future,

We are trying very hard to keep giving you the very best experience that we possibly can when you come to stay at  Wintersett Lakes and in the fabulous Wakefield Countryside. We love being here to give you a great big Yokshire Welcome and for a hundred other sound reasons.

The local planners are currently spending Council Tax payers' money in both fighting to to ensure that we cannot be on site in management accommodation to look after you, whilst at the same time imposing planning conditions that say that we must have on-site residential management!

We know that a keycode barrier welcome is unaccpetable for you and for us. The planners in Wakefield have seriously suggested that alternatively, we can give you an acceptable level of service  by 'sitting in some sort of shed for two hours a day'.

The planners should not hide behind decisions of the Planning Inspectorate either - he had clearly eaten too much cheese when he said that  'permanent warden'  on site respresented the 'Gold' standard, but then said that the current planning system didn't allow it - and we couldn't have it at Wintersett Lakes!

Instead he suggested that the pub lanlord could look after you by looking at you from the first floor window of the pub!

The Inspectorate's decision to disregard our risk assessment as 'subjective' although it was completed by a qualified professional, has already proven potentially very dangerous.  An elderly gentleman having a suspected heart attack had to rely on us as did the 999 services, who could not locate us on their system.  All of the barriers,  phones, CCTV that both the Inspectorate and the local planners have insisted will give you adequate protection and an 'acceptable' level of customer service, very evidently will not.  We would much  rather not be in the position of saying 'I told you so'.

With both local and national planning reviews underway (there is widespread recognition that the rural planning system is broken) that should help everyone reach sensible, lawful decisions, we are calling upon Wakefield Council to stop and think until the reviews are concluded.

A petition to Peter Box CBE leader of Wakefield Council is on our facebook page facebook.com/wintersettlakes and  a paper petition is on site, both now insisted upon by you outraged guests! 'Keep the Managers On Wintersett Lakes' - You can also tell Wakefield Council what you think using our contact form on here. I will print off and pass on.
